Thanks to lockdown, Easter will feel very different this year. There won’t be any days out, or organised egg hunts. And not being able to share the holiday with anyone outside our immediate households is going to be difficult. 

But, despite this, Easter can still be special. Treads blog team has scoured the internet for Easter-themed ways to celebrate the holiday. Here are some of our favourite ideas for festive things to make and do with your little ones.

Tempting Recipes by Amy Treasure

Amy of Tempting Recipes has some fantastic Easter-themed recipes for kids, like the colourful chocolate bark pictured above and delicious mini egg, white chocolate blondies.

She also has an easy fairy-cake recipe (with some genius ingredient substitutions, which are very welcome in these wobbly times) that little ones will enjoy making. And just in case you need more reason to bake with your children this Easter, Amy makes a strong case for the home schooling benefits of cooking together:

“When the children are home, what better way to practise fun maths by getting them to weigh and measure the ingredients for fairy cakes. Not only are children learning the maths and science of baking they’re also working on problem-solving as well as valuable fine motor skills.”

Growing Family

Home and garden blogger Catherine, recommends getting your kids growing in the garden this Easter. Her own children love growing things from seed:

“There’s the Jack & the Beanstalk effect of planting a seed and seeing it magically turn into a plant, the outdoorsy-ness of the whole thing, the grown-up feeling such responsibility gives them, and of course the all-important getting grubby element.”

Sowing sunflowers over the Easter weekend would be a special thing to do together, especially as we have the prospect of lots more time in the garden to chart their progress. Speaking of which, the Growing Family blog has no less than 60 inspirational ideas for garden activities with kids.

Mummy… Mummy… Mum!

If you’re looking for a craft that uses what you’ve got in the house, try turning eggshells into superheroes with this cool cresshead tutorial from Emma of Mummy…Mummy…Mum! (pictured above).

And that’s not the only egg-themed craft activity this blogger has up her sleeve. Check out her easy Easter card activity - perfect for the tiniest of hands. And Emma also has a great idea for crafting cardboard Easter baskets, so you can put on a fabulous egg hunt at home.

Kids Craft Room

For even more Easter craft ideas, check out Kids Craft Room. Blogger Emma shares fabulous, free printable activities, like super easy Easter Bunny cards. Crafting and sending Easter cards would be a lovely way to share some Easter love with friends and relatives we’re not going to see for a while.

Or how about making Easter-egg maracas, or Easter-egg suncatchers out of yarn? Finally, to get everyone in a festive mood, Emma has printable Easter jokes that you could share around your family to liven up the Easter Sunday video call.

The Purple Pumpkin Blog

The Purple Pumpkin Blog is a fabulous resource for families this Easter. Besides some delicious recipes, Michelle has tonnes of awesome games and activities, like this Easter I-Spy printable.

Frozen movie fans will love her Easter bunny Olaf activity, while her lolly-stick Easter puppets (pictured above) are a really lovely way to animate storytime for younger children. For more creative activities, check out her round-up of 28 Easter craft ideas.

Science Sparks

A fun Easter means lots of eggy experiments on the Science Sparks blog. Prepare to be amazed and seriously inspired by blogger Emma, as she shares tonnes of awesome Easter science activities your kids will love.

Her crash-test egg experiment involves designing a protective case for a boiled egg - from LEGO or other building kits - then dropping it from a height. There’s an Easter egg zip wire challenge and a code-breaking activity that will make this year’s egg hunt last longer than the usual two minutes!

Suburban Mum

If you’d like to surprise your kids with something a little different this year, try making an Easter jar (pictured above), following Maria of Suburban Mum’s tutorial. Kids will love discovering and opening these cute jars filled with chocolate bunnies and mini chocolate eggs.

Maria has some lovely kid-friendly Easter crafts on her site, including easy-to-make bunny cards and Easter chicks. And we love her list of 33 ways to entertain kids at home. That’s going to come in very handy over the next few weeks.

The Reading Residence

Go to town with a whole day of Easter activities, courtesy of The Reading Residence. Blogger Jocelyn has some amazing ideas for preschool Easter fun - from making them a bunny-themed breakfast to a lovely Easter egg marble painting activity.

And why not set up an Easter Bonnet Parade in the back garden this year? Jocelyn has an easy tutorial for crafty kids (and parents) to enjoy. In fact, you could all get involved and ask grandparents to judge the winner over video call!
